South Africa

South Africa is the beating heart of Africa — a land of breathtaking contrasts where ancestral cultures live alongside modern cities. Known as the Rainbow Nation for its extraordinary cultural, ethnic and linguistic richness.

Having come through the shadow of apartheid, it is today one of the most advanced democracies on the continent — an example of resilience and rebirth.

The school system

The South African system has a seven-year primary cycle and a four-year secondary cycle, twelve years in total. The year runs from late January to mid December, split into four terms.

Every school offers optional courses across many fields and a rich programme of extracurricular activities.

What they say about us

It all begins when you get on the plane and realise it's really happening. The real tension starts when you feel the wheels touch down: the first meeting with your host family, the first day of school, the first friendships. It comes down to one phrase — "exchange isn't a year in your life, it's a life in a year".
