The programme in Costa Rica is for high-school students aged 15 to 18. It opens with an orientation activity in San José; placements are made anywhere in the country.

Costa Rica is one of the smallest states in Central America and a true natural jewel suspended between two seas, the Caribbean and the Pacific. Tropical beauty, rich flora and fauna, many microclimates and more than 70 national parks make it an earthly paradise.
The locals — "Ticos" — are a welcoming, smiling people, and the national motto "Pura Vida" is a genuine hymn to enjoying life.
The school system
The Costa Rican system is divided into four cycles. The school year runs from February to December, split into terms, and the government invests heavily in education — most schools are public and literacy is very high.
International students join the last or second-to-last year of high school. There are compulsory subjects (Spanish, maths, physics, a foreign language and PE) and optional ones depending on the track. Uniform is required and lessons usually run from 7:00 to between 13:00 and 16:30.
